To facilitate the students about the learning opportunities in foreign countries, Federal Government has directed Higher Education Commission to design a website. The proposed name of the website will be “Learning Opportunities Abroad”. It will link to HEC & Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training websites.
These orders were issued in a meeting chaired by Muhammad Baligh-Ur-Rehman, Minister of State Engineer, about the new developments in higher education. Along with this, other agendas i.e. facilities for the Special Students, Pakistan Chairs Abroad, collaboration with different countries regarding Higher Education and Overall achievements of HEC are also discussed.
From 2009 till today, 2654 students have been sent on scholarship through different program offered by HEC in different countries. Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar briefed the Minister of State regarding the scholarship programs monitored and facilitated by HEC,
Around 2654 students have been sent on scholarships from 2009 till date through different agreed programs among countries and HEC. There is no lapse of scholarship for the year of 2016. But there is always a room for improvement.
This new website will provide all the information related to scholarships, destination available for studies in authorized foreign universities. This will be a comprehensive portal for Pakistani students about the opportunities available in the world. It will serve the role of a one-click portal for foreign studies. This will help local students to easily access the information they need for foreign studies.
Minister of State also directed the Higher Education Commission to write letter to all embassies and ask them to provide all information regarding to scholarship availability in respective countries.
Chairman HEC said that they have conducted a study with purpose to identify areas in which PhD’s are required. For example, textile, sports, transportation supply chain and logistic are among few areas in which experts are needed. He also brief about selection criteria of PhDs to the Ministry.
Indeed, it would be a wonderful step by Higher Education Commision to launch this website. Many students find it difficult searching for scholarship opportunities and finding the right destination for foreign education. The website will surely solve the problem of such students.
